Lolo & Toastmasters

IMG_5712.jpg

Laurie joined Toastmasters in the late 80s. For those of you unfamiliar, I have stolen the following directly from their website:

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs.

Laurie was so proficient at this new challenge that she won Toastmaster Of The Year in 1989! She also was awarded 1st place in the Humorous Contest in 1990 (of course she did). Below are some samples of her work. *Just click the buttons*

Icebreaker Speech.

Featured in Toastmasters magazine, Profile section, introduces fellow members to this witty, pretty and well-spoken new member, Laurie.

Nobody Warned Me is a hilarious summation of raising a teenage girl.

Adventures in massage Therapy

Laurie's hilarious diatribe on her mid-life career adventure into massage therapy. Also, in the undated picture below are Laurie's compatriots during this time, June and Risa*. These ladies are featured in the story but without mention of my mom's 'square feet'. Want to know more? You'll just have to read.

The Princess & 3 Little Pigs

Laurie was the eldest of 4. After perfection was born to Bob and Gertrude Schapp, they proceeded to have 3 boys: Michael, Timothy and Patrick. Timothy (aka Otto) remained her VERY best friend until his death in May of 1995 however, when they all lived together in that house on Holt Road, it was mayhem. In recent years, still evident were the hammer marks on Laurie's bedroom door from when she 'babysat' the 3 pigs (ahem, I mean her 3 younger siblings). We lost Michael in 2010 and Patrick is still kicking around somewhere in Massachusetts.

Best Kind of kids? Grandkids!!

I mean, it says it right there is their collective name. These kids are GRAND, they are awesome and lovely and the best part? You can go home, or make them go home. You can spoil and fill them full of sugar and send them RIGHT back to their parents. It's all part of the master plan. Karma anyone? James was born March of 2003, Nick came along in June of 05, Cate in January 2008 and Harlow in November 2013. They are ALL great kids, they are LoLo's GRANDkids.

More to Come..
